  • My Crystal Ball Is Broken

    hands

I can’t predict the future. Unless you call a psychic hotline or have some kind of otherworldly mental feed, neither can you. We can however work towards goals in hopes of achieving a desired result. Or by past history, we can assume an outcome. Even though we all know what happens when we assume, for the point of this discussion we’ll say that assumptions are allowed.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. So it is said. Yin/yang, positive/negative, in/out, up/down. In politics we have Democrat/Republican. In Religion Believer/Atheist. In sex Free Spirit/Prude. On Xanga…. well we’ll leave that one for another day. You get the idea. But not everything is black/white. There are many shades of grey and too many people forget that. And grey can be an awesome color.

We need to learn to adjust our thinking sometimes. Working for a Masters in Business Administration is an admirable goal. Your world will not fall apart though if your dream job doesn’t come along right after graduation. Saving for that ideal home is commendable. You have not failed if it doesn’t happen during your 3 year plan. Your fantasy of (fill in the blank) is awesome. Don’t give up on it just because it didn’t happen the way you had planned.

Each time we have to adjust to a scenario, it gives us the chance of finding/doing something different then we had thought of before. And that ain’t bad. Thinking outside the box and taking the blinders off can actually be liberating. When we open our minds and hearts to more we actually gain instead of lose.

There is an old quote from Thomas Edison: “I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward” Instead of seeing something/someone as a failure, why not instead see it as an opportunity. We are given chance after chance after chance to be something more, do something unique, try something different. Yet how many times do we give up because we see ourselves as inadequate to complete the task we set before ourselves.

Next time that happens, shake your fist to the heavens, rant to the powers that be or blame the Vorlon god Boojie for all your problems. Just don’t give up. I leave you with this little reminder:

“Many of life’s failures are men who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up”

    T.A. Edison
