My Crystal Ball Is Broken
I can’t predict the future. Unless you call a psychic hotline or have some kind of otherworldly mental feed, neither can you. We can however work towards goals in hopes of achieving a desired result. Or by past history, we can assume an outcome. Even though we all know what happens when we assume, for the point of this discussion we’ll say that assumptions are allowed.
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. So it is said. Yin/yang, positive/negative, in/out, up/down. In politics we have Democrat/Republican. In Religion Believer/Atheist. In sex Free Spirit/Prude. On Xanga…. well we’ll leave that one for another day. You get the idea. But not everything is black/white. There are many shades of grey and too many people forget that. And grey can be an awesome color.
We need to learn to adjust our thinking sometimes. Working for a Masters in Business Administration is an admirable goal. Your world will not fall apart though if your dream job doesn’t come along right after graduation. Saving for that ideal home is commendable. You have not failed if it doesn’t happen during your 3 year plan. Your fantasy of (fill in the blank) is awesome. Don’t give up on it just because it didn’t happen the way you had planned.
Each time we have to adjust to a scenario, it gives us the chance of finding/doing something different then we had thought of before. And that ain’t bad. Thinking outside the box and taking the blinders off can actually be liberating. When we open our minds and hearts to more we actually gain instead of lose.
There is an old quote from Thomas Edison: “I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward” Instead of seeing something/someone as a failure, why not instead see it as an opportunity. We are given chance after chance after chance to be something more, do something unique, try something different. Yet how many times do we give up because we see ourselves as inadequate to complete the task we set before ourselves.
Next time that happens, shake your fist to the heavens, rant to the powers that be or blame the Vorlon god Boojie for all your problems. Just don’t give up. I leave you with this little reminder:
“Many of life’s failures are men who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up”
T.A. Edison

Oh, I think this is my favorite post of yours. Excellent advice, and great quotes!
I think I needed to hear this, too. So thank you for that, as well!
@Blue__Summer - Sometimes I think you and Tom are on the same wavelength.
I've always loved his quotes. To him failure was not an option, he'd just try something else.
Thanks for the reminder! I've always had my life planned out ahead of me, but things never went my way and now I'm so thankful they didn't, because I'm better off now than I ever thought I would be.
@SimplyNita - See, it can work to your advantage. Who knows WHY things happen. Go with the flow and see where it takes you.
I've always mapped out my life. But - rarely does it follow the route. (You know that phrase... 'If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans'?!) I am now finally getting to the point of being able to see potential failures as opportunities for growth... it's all a matter of perspective. (Yet, at times... I still wish I had a crystal ball.)
Great Post
@Passionflwr86 - It's not an easy thing to adjust, but it's so worth it in the end. And yeah, a crystal ball every once in a while would be nice! @sweetlovinlife - Thank you
Wonderful quote
Very inspiring!! I'm glad I stopped by and read this : )
Let me say this: Try to be humbled by destiny and not arrogant with your pride.
When we plan ahead, sometimes our plans cannot come into fruition. Ambition is good, and experience will temper that ambition.
Some people are too obsessive with their thinking. It might be pride or stubbornness who can tell? Some people will tell you don't throw good money after bad. I don't know if there is an equivalent saying on thinking: don't continue to keep thinking on a bad idea, you just can only summarize and rationalize on a idea and put it on a shelf or give up on the idea.
sometimes i think the very essence of surprise is what makes life worthwhile.
This is great. Especially because we don't always know what we want or what we're talking about. We think we know what's best for us, but often don't. When things don't work out the way we plan, it's life's way of saying -- try something different.
love this post. very positive, good advice. thanks.

@Olyachka - I always liked it @beautywithin2851 - I am glad you stopped by to and that you enjoyed it. @PPhilip - Good points all! @elelkewljay - Would that more feel that way, life would be sweeter. @awholenewbeginning - Exactly! @Alyxandri - Thank you for saying so
Great post and I loved the last quote. 8]
great advice. flexibility is essential.
you're so wise! or is it the other you?
Back when I handled divorces I had a client whos doctor husband left her for another lady. She said she never saw it coming and was very lost. I got to know her well over the months as you do working with someone through something so personal.
Many months after her divorce she called me to thank me about one particular thing I told her when the divorce was almost complete. I said, "I bet in some small way there must be some excitment in you wondering what adventure lies ahead now that life's taken an unexpected turn."
She said until I said that her divorce was one big mess of depression. After I suggested she might be excited in some small way, she began looking at the divorce differently. She started to be more optimistic about her future.
Great post!
@Whispers_of_Wind - Thanks! @TheBigShowAtUD - If you can't tell the difference, we must be doing something right. Or is it wrong? Hmmmm @ItsWhatEyeKnow - It's a simple idea, yet hard to implement. When it hits you though, wow! That was so nice of you to say that to her. It probably helped a lot
@CdllcEnthus - That he was
Good post....a positive message for all.
it was a while before i realized there are two of you. hm.
It took me a long time to see 'failures' as something that was ok. It really makes a huge difference in life. I hope that more people can read this and really take something away from it.
@Bricker59 - We try to be positive, even when it isn't easy. Like the new pic btw! @TheBigShowAtUD - Dang guess I better use that backside pic instead just to make sure everyone can tell the difference. Or does hubby need to grow that mustache a little more? @der_lila_Stern - Failure is just not getting what you want, when you want it. It doesn' mean that you are a loser and too many people equate the words as being synonimous.
Not everything is in Monochrome either. Life is comprised of RGB!
RYC: And you as well! When we all stand together, nothing can stop us, or bring us down. We're the best damn community I've ever seen; and it will stay that way as long as we're united.
